Summer is in full swing and up and down the country there are festivals galore planned. It doesn’t matter what your taste is, it could be music, literature or food, there’s a festival to suite your taste.
Unfortunately festival going can take its toll on our backs. The chances are that you will find yourself standing for long periods, sitting on hard surfaces, carrying bags and picnics and if you are planning on camping over well there’s even more carrying and hard ground!
Our chiropractors at Newcastle Chiropractic Clinic want to make sure that you are adequately prepared to protect your back during your Festival outing and they have put together some tips for you to follow.
Carrying: If you have a lot to carry then split the load across two bags as it’s better to carry two evenly balanced bags, one in each hand, than carry one heavy bag. Using a rucksack is the best option for carrying your things. However, use both straps over your shoulders and ensure you adjust the straps so that the rucksack sits evenly on your back as close to your body as possible.
Standing: Check your posture on a regular basis and straighten up if you find yourself slouching. To give your back the best possible support, stand with your feet shoulder distance apart. Wear comfortable shoes which will give you support and be more comfortable for all the walking you’ll be doing!
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water.
If you are planning to attend a festival (or more) this summer our chiropractors in Newcastle under Lyme hope you have a great time and follow their tips to help keep your back safe.
