Anatomy of Mid Back Pain
Your spine is formed by a set of 24 bones that are stacked on top of each other with a soft "disc" between each segment for flexibility.
A healthy back should be able to flex and move in different directions like a giant spring. If your spine has joint restrictions, it could look more similar to having part of the spring welded together - still functioning as one unit but not fully functional.
Causes of Mid Back Pain
Mental and physical health issues can develop into chronic pain. This may be due to an accident, injury or illness related such as being overweight or poor posture. Chronic pains can also result from repetitive strain during work or unsafe conditions that cause stress for the individual in their environment (i.e. emotional).
If one rower in a boat stops rowing, the others are forced to pick up extra slack and this can be harmful. In a similar way, when there is an issue with one part of your spine it affects other areas as well due to how connected they all are.
When Mid Back Pain Is a Problem
A restricted joint can cause pain that begins around your rib cage and moves up & down your spine. This should be reported to us immediately if you experience any of these symptoms: chest pain, shortness of breath, unusual cough or indigestion or flu-like complaints.
If there has been a long term restriction it could lead to arthritis in the same way as when small misalignments occur on car wheels causing premature wearing out - similar wear and tear will happen with joints too!
What We Do
We offer a variety of options to ease your pain.
The safest and most effective treatment for joint restrictions is chiropractic care, so make sure you're visiting us regularly! You should avoid activities that make your back feel worse while also taking frequent breaks if you have lots of sedentary activity like sitting at a computer all day.
Yoga has been shown to help with back problems too, so consider joining in or searching online for some video tutorials. We would love the opportunity to get out there and fix those joints - come visit us today!
