Feel Better And Stronger For Longer With Functional Rehab

Exercising, training, and doing things for your body are all good things, but unless your workout plan is tailored to you specifically, it won’t work as well as it could and could even cause injury or pain.

We get people out of pain when they come into our office in pain, whether it’s from a back injury, sciatica, migraines, or any other number of issues.

The problem is that many of them return to the behaviours that caused the problem in the first place. This results in pain coming back and re-injury.

Ready To Feel Amazing, Doing What You Love?

If you’re looking for a personalised, fitness & strength program that will reduce your risk of injury, our Functional Strength Program is for you!

Here's What You Need To Know About Functional Rehab

The Functional Strength Program is a personalised, 1-on-1 fitness strength program built around your needs and goals.

  • We start with a needs assessment. The program is designed to identify weak links and where you move improperly.
  • Then we test every part of the body. Then we’ll take you through a testing process and look for imbalances in every major joint and region of the body. This evaluation allows us to identify weaknesses that wouldn’t normally come to your attention because they don’t hurt yet but they put you at risk of injury.
  • We set some goals. Using what we learned during the evaluation as well as your personal goals, we combine chiropractic treatments with fitness strength training to create your own unique Functional Strength Program.
  • We hit your goals. Our team will work alongside you to make sure you get the exercises, training, encouragement, accountability and support you need to achieve your goals.

Why Does Functional Rehab Work So Well?

The best part of this program is that it looks at the whole body, not just one part.

We check everything. Everything from ankle range of motion to shoulder, neck, and upper back movement is examined. We look at it not only from chiropractic and orthopaedic standpoint but also your physical fitness.

It’s also completely personal. We create a personalised multi-phase strength training program. Devoted to achieving your goals, we consider your strengths and limitations.

We Get You Moving

From the very beginning, we are working on moving towards your goal. You’ll learn important activities such as foam rolling, breathing, targeted stretching, and activities tailored to what you want.

We then move on to a power warm-up sequence, followed by a full-body strength training program.

Each phase of the workout is tailored to you in order to maximise your gains while lowering your risk of injury.

We’ve found that the best results come from the highest levels of customisation.

Who Is Functional Rehab For?

We realise that this program comes with the highest level of commitment. We expect the best from ourselves and our patients.

The Functional Rehab program is a great fit for anyone, regardless of age, who has previously injured themselves, has had issues that could flare up again, or simply wants to avoid injury.

If you know you’ve got more in you and want to perform at your highest level again, schedule a consultation with us to see if this program is right for you.

Rehab and Posture Exercises

Posture exercises are only given to our chiropractic patients because you have had a thorough examination and we believe that these exercises are appropriate for you as part of your back treatment.

Please ensure that you do them according to the guidelines and if you have any problems then please let your chiropractor know when you come for your next chiropractic appointment.

Disclaimer

Corrective exercises are essential in the treatment of long-term or recurrent problems. A great deal of research into exercise and spinal disorders has taken place in recent years. The appropriate exercise is dependent on exactly what back problem has been diagnosed. For example, an exercise that is beneficial for disc injuries may be harmful in facet injuries. These exercises are not designed to be an alternative to consulting your chiropractor but to compliment your chiropractic treatment.

We cannot be held responsible for any adverse effects from doing home exercises unless you have been directed to do them by your chiropractor. For more details contact Dr. Robert Finn by phone or use the contact form.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between functional rehab and a normal chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is usually a single hands on technique aimed at a specific joint, whereas functional rehab is a broader programme. It combines guided exercises, movement retraining and strength work alongside any adjustments, with the goal of building lasting stability rather than just easing a symptom on the day.

Many patients find the two work well together, with adjustments helping to settle discomfort and rehab helping to keep it from coming back.

How many functional rehab sessions will I need?

This varies a lot from person to person, depending on how long you’ve had the problem, your general activity levels and what you’re hoping to get back to. Some people notice improvements within a few weeks, while others with longstanding issues need a longer programme.

Your chiropractor will talk you through a realistic plan after your assessment, so you know roughly what to expect before committing to anything.

Do you see patients from Stoke on Trent for functional rehab, or just Newcastle under Lyme?

Yes, we see patients from right across the area, not just Newcastle under Lyme. Plenty of people travel over from Stoke on Trent, Kidsgrove, Silverdale and the surrounding towns for functional rehab, as it’s a fairly short journey for most of North Staffordshire.

Wherever you’re travelling from, your chiropractor will tailor the programme to suit you, so it’s worth getting in touch even if you’re not local to Newcastle under Lyme.

Can functional rehab help with an old sports injury that never fully healed?

It can, in many cases. Old injuries often leave behind areas of weakness or restricted movement that the body has learned to work around, which can lead to compensation elsewhere. A functional rehab programme looks at how you move as a whole, not just the original injury site, and may help rebuild strength and confidence in that area.

It’s not a guarantee for every injury, but it’s a common reason people get in touch with us.

Do I need to be referred by my GP to start functional rehab?

No, you don’t need a referral. You can book directly with us and your chiropractor will carry out a thorough assessment before recommending whether functional rehab is a suitable approach for you.

If we feel your symptoms need input from another healthcare professional first, we’ll always let you know.

What should I wear to a functional rehab session?

Comfortable, loose fitting clothing that you can move freely in works best, similar to what you’d wear to the gym. Trainers or flat, supportive shoes are a good idea too, since your session may involve some standing exercises or movement work rather than just lying on a treatment table.

If you’re ever unsure, just ask when you book online and we’ll happily advise.
