Have you stopped to consider how heavy your handbag is? It is not uncommon for some bags to weigh as much as up to 3kgs. Unfortunately carrying these heavy and often unwieldy bags can pose a risk to your posture or contribute to back or neck problems.
As chiropractors we are committed to helping people avoid back pain in the first instance. With this in mind our team of chiropractors at Newcastle Chiropractic Clinic have put together their top tips for keeping your back bag safe:
- Keep it light: The lighter the bag the better so first things first is to empty it out and remove unwanted items. You’ll probably be surprised how much lighter your bag will be!
- Use the strap: Often larger bags come with a strap so use it. Keep your bag as close to your body as possible and alternate the shoulder you are carrying the bag on. If the strap is long enough then wear it across your body.
- Holding your bag: Avoid holding a bag that has long straps high up in the crook of your arm or down towards your knees as this will put an even load on your body.
Keep your back bag safe by following the above advice.
